Family Centered Services of Alaska (FCSA) is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) corporation founded in 1989 by Fairbanks, Alaska community members committed to helping children with a wide spectrum of behavioral and mental health needs. Today, FCSA has over 100 employees dedicated to our mission of providing unconditional care to children and their families.
FCSA provides behavioral and mental health services to youth aged 5-19. Services include outpatient therapy, education, foster care, and short or long-term residential treatment. FCSA is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and was one of the first organizations to be licensed by the state to establish, recruit, and monitor foster homes.
About the Job
Family Centered Services of Alaska is searching for a qualified individual to fulfill the Teacher (Non-Certified) role in our Youth Education Support Services (YESS) program. An applicant selected for this role will be responsible for providing teaching, tutoring, testing, lesson plan preparation, curriculum selection and development, and establishment of educational goals for individual students and the school. You will work with small class sizes of no more than 6 students in this role, and you will have support in each classroom at all times.
Educational and Milieu Treatment Responsibilities:
1. Provide classroom and individualized instructions in basic skill content, physical education and/or arts and crafts activities.
2. Administers individualized achievement tests in all basic achievement areas.
3. Assist Special Education Teacher with developing instructional objectives for students.
4. Implement academic curriculum in conjunction with each student’s mental health treatment plan.
5. Administers time out procedures.
6. Provide crisis intervention as needed.
7. Become completely familiar with each student’s Individualized Treatment Plan and implement activities.
8. Accurately observe student behavior and implement behavior modification charting system.
9. Assist in planning and implementing recreational and/or arts and crafts activities.
10. Assist in determining and ordering of books and materials needed for educational programs.
Administrative Responsibilities:
1. Assist the Special Education Teacher with the coordination of reporting and documentation requirements relative to student performance, grading, and credit transfer to the local school district.
2. Assist the Special Education Teacher with the evaluation of transcripts and school records of newly admitted students to determine their educational needs.
3. Attend staff meetings, training’s, teleconferences, IEP meetings, Treatment Team meetings and court hearings.
4. Communicate with community professionals as required, including police, medical personnel, parents, social service agency personnel, etc.
5. Maintain daily reporting and charting on students.
6. Completes incident reports.
7. Record administration of medications.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree.
2. Ability to work as a member of a team in developing and delivering academic and mental health services to students.
3. Physical ability to employ verbal and physical aggression control techniques after being certified.
4. Knowledge of Alaskan childcare regulations and Familiarity with state and federal special education laws.
5. Current Alaska driver’s license, driving record, vehicle insurance.
6. Potential employees must undergo a fingerprint check, which shows that their record is free from criminal convictions, which, in the judgment of FCSA, would adversely affect their ability to work safely with children.
7. Current first aid and CPR certificates or the ability to be certified.
All applicants must be at least 21 years of age due to State of AK regulations and must pass a State of AK Background Check.
